Over the past month a number of works have been produced. These include a soundtrack and sound effects for the filling of the new lake at Varsity Lakes, soundtrack and soundeffects for the RACQ Careflight Helicopter footage, theme music for G-Netech's production reel, and recordings for Gold Coast band 'The Levels'.
Sound design is produced via a combination of traditional analog and digital synthesizers plus software based virtual synthesizers and digital effects. Virtual Synthesizers are much more economical than their hardware counterparts, as they make use of the memory and processing speed of the host computer. There are also no messy wires and patching required, therefore keeping everything in the digital domain and at the highest possible quality.
The power of these new software packages is quite incredible, and it is now entirely possible to complete an album with only a laptop.
There is still a place for traditional processing however - some units in the studio even utilise technologies that were pioneered before WWII. One of these is a valve (or tube) driven pre-amp and compressor. Digital signals can sometimes lose warmth and presence, and there is nothing better for giving a sound character than running it through valves. Everything from voices to electric guitars can benefit from the treatment, and the difference is quite noticable.
G-Netech intends to make use of all these technologies to produce new and different sounds that add to the visual effects and design produced by the other departments within the company.
