| Compositing is one of the lesser known tasks that fall into the visual effects category. It is so important, however, that there are often whole teams devoted to this task during film production. The role of a compositor is to take all the various components that make up a shot and layer them on top of each other. Complex shots have been known to have up to 300 layers. |

Terminator III Rise of the Machines |
When Terminator II came out in 1989 it brought about a revolution in film production. The movie ditched the stop motion puppetry of the original Terminator movie made in 1984, and instead utilised 3D animation integrated into live action.
